AdSense For Feeds - Now Make Money On Your Blog Feeds.

Written by Sudipto on Wednesday, August 27, 2008

Google Adsense For FeedsIn the video section today I am going provide you with a little more information regarding AdSense For Feeds. With AdSense for feeds you can now earn by placing Google Adsense ads on your blog feeds.

Like normal AdSense ads, AdSense for feed can also be paid in two ways, i.e., by click or by impression. Feed ads can also be targeted in two ways.

  • Contextually targeted to the content in your feed.

  • Targeted by advertisers to your specific feed when you set up an ad placement

You can also control the appearance, positioning, and frequency of Google Adsense Ads for your feeds. However the ad size is automatically determined based on where your feed is appearing.

Google Adsense For Feeds

Why use Adsense for feeds?

Now days most us use feed readers to read a blog's Rss feed. Since I am using software or a web based application to read the contents of the blog, unless the blog uses a "read more" script I don't actually need to visit the blog to read its content. So, the blog does not earn any Adsense income from feed readers who are actually loyal to the blog. Now, with the introduction of AdSense for feeds, you can implement Adsense Ads on your feeds, which might increase your Adsense revenue.

Those of you who use Feedburner to syndicate your blogs RSS feed, you need to migrate them first. Just send an email at adsense-support-aff@google.com and mention your FeedBurner username and the AdSense account email address.

In this video Google product manager Steve Olechowski introduces AdSense for feeds, Google's new monetization solution for RSS feeds - which is now available in your AdSense account.

Google Knol - Make Money With The Next Big Thing.

Written by Sudipto on Thursday, July 31, 2008

Google Knol - Make Money With The Next Big Thing.Google has just entered the Article Directory Game in a Big Way after they launched Knol on July 23. Google Knol (a Wikipedia Competitor) is free and all you need is a Google Account Id. This is an absolute Ground Breaking Opportunity because you can write and publish articles on your favourite topics. The service gets its name from the word "knowledge” and each article page or content page you create will be called a Knol (an authoritative article about a specific topic, similar to Squidoo Lenses).

Why use Google Knol and what are the benefits?

Well we all know how authoritative the top writers were in Ezine Articles when it was first launched and all of us want to enjoy the steady supply of Traffic and Income those article writers are receiving.

Google Knol obtained thousands of quality back links in less than a week. It is expected that Google Knol will be Page Rank 8 or more in the near future. Right now there are less than 2000 pages when I searched Google for Knol. But don’t worry soon their will be millions of Articles submitted.

Since Google Knol will gain huge amount of back links, many of the Knols created by different writers will start ranking high on Google search engine and benefit from free Google traffic.

Submitted articles will be reviewed and rated by others in the directory, giving the writer even more authority in the site, helping their content to rank higher and thereby providing them with the opportunity to get even more traffic and more money.

Adsense Ads can be integrated with the Knols.

The best part is that writers will be able to include AdSense ads in all their Knols. So, the Knols that attract traffic can earn from AdSense ad revenue. Authors, who will be able to create popular Knols that share valuable content, should be able to earn a good AdSense income every month.

Also, Google will be ranking the articles supplied relative to the rankings of the authors who submit them. Those who manage to get their Knols ranked on a competitive keyword will receive quality traffic and will have the chance to include links in their Knols to direct these Google traffic to their Website or Blog or even choose to monetize their Knols with AdSense ads so that these Google traffic can be converted into AdSense revenue.

I am still experimenting with Google Knol and trying to find out how it performs and what other roles it can play, but at present it looks very promising. And as Google Knol is rather young, we’ll give it sometime and who knows, maybe it may become the next big thing since Youtube.

Build Squidoo Lenses To Make Money Online.

Written by Sudipto on Friday, June 13, 2008

Squidoo Make Money OnlineSquidoo is one of the most popular ways to make money online. Lots of people who want to start earning money online have not explored Squidoo or don't know how they can use Squidoo to make money.

Squidoo is a Free Web 2.0 platform where you can earn money by creating "lenses". A "lens" is an easy-to-build, single web page that can point to blogs, favorite links, RSS feeds, Flickr photos, Google maps, your eBay auctions, CafePress designs, Amazon books or music, and oh so much more. That way, when someone is looking for recommended information, fast, your lens gets him started and sends him off in the right direction.

You can creat one lens or a hundred lenses, the choice is upto you. It takes about 5 minutes to set up a lens. Once you've created it, you can come back and work on it bit by bit to make it really great. There are different ways to make money from it and here are some of them:

1. Since you're the brains behind the "lens", Squidoo will share 50% of the revenue generated from the "lens" you the "lensmaster" have created. Any time someone stops by your lens and buys a product you recommended or clicks on a Google ad, you get 50% of the royalties.

Ad revenue (Google and other ads) goes into a pool, so as to avoide clickfraud. Half of the pool distributes out to lensmasters, on a PayRank scale that is based on each lens's average LensRank and traffic, and the number and quality of lenses in the lensmaster's account.

Affiliate revenue (ie, referral income - like Amazon and eBay and CafePress) is directly attributable to the lens that generated the revenue, and is not pooled with the whole co-op. The lensmaster gets a straight 50%.

2. Promote Squidoo through their affiliate programme - All you need to do is create your own account and get your referral link. If someone signs up through your affiliate link and then his or her lens earns its first $15, both you and your friend will each get $5 in to your account. I mean, for example, if you sign up with Squidoo using my referral link, then you and I both stand a chance in making money when you reach your first $15 earnings. But, if you don't sign up with a referral, then both you and the person who told you about Squidoo don't get to make that extra $5.

3. Sell and promote your own products - If you run an eBay store or Cafepress shop, then creating a Squidoo lens is one way for you to get new buyers. You just create a lens that is related to the theme of your online store, use the built-in functions of adding eBay and/or CafePress items, choose items that you wish to promote - then publish and share your lens.

4. Promote affiliate products - Other than using the built-in default Amazon, eBay, Netflix, CafePress, and iTunes "modules" mentioned above, you can also link to your own affiliate products on your lenses. This way you can ensure that you keep the entire commission to yourself.

Squidoo uses PayPal to send you cash and you can set the minimum payout to as low as $1. You can also choose to receive your payments either as 100% cash, 100% charity of your choice, or a mixture of cash and charity.

Other Advantages Of Using Squidoo:

Fast Google Indexing - Your lens can be indexed as quickly as 2-3 days. Although the time it takes to index varies, but you will find that it is much easier and faster to get indexed by Google than any other system.

High Google Rankings - Squidoo is very popular media as it holds good favor with Google and if you carefully select your keywords you can find yourself shooting up the search engine rankings.

Drive Traffic To Your Blog or Website - Since your squidoo lens will rank high on google and other search engines, if you link your blog or website from your squidoo lens, you can expect a flurry of new visitors, that may just turn in to readers, subscribers, and/or buyers of whatever it is you're selling.

Higher Page Rank (PR) - Google loves Squidoo and you should take advantage of this as much as you can by placing a link to your blog or website from your squidoo lens. Chances are that it might just help with your PR rankings.

Some Quick Resources For Your Squidoo Lens:

Each Squidoo lens has a topic. If you need a Niche that converts well then you should frequently visit Top 100 Lenses by Traffic or by LensRank and take a look at what other lensmasters are doing and copy their style. You can also search by Topic if you prefer. The other great place you can get ideas from is Squidoo's Tag Cloud to find out what is popular. If you need to learn to make better lenses, and pick up tips for promoting your lenses to the public then visit SquidU.com. Run and moderated by passionate Squidoo volunteers and lensmasters, it is an answerplace for our newest and our most advanced lensmasters alike.

If you want to know more about making money from Squidoo, you can read Seth Godin's Everyone's an Expert and Flipping the Funnel. Become A Suidoo Guru is also a good ebook that will teach you step-by-step to create and promote a profitable Squidoo Lens.

Keyword Research Tutorial - Master Your Keywords.

Written by Sudipto on Tuesday, June 10, 2008

Keyword Research Tutorial - Organize and Master Your Keywords. The aim of this keyword research tutorial is to help you generate an Internet Income from the content you provide, and also lay a solid foundations for online income in the future.

Often, before publishing content we either do not perform any keyword research, or perform it on a so and so basis. Therefore we don't give us a chance to get free traffic from search engines. In is this post I will hope to explain briefly how to plan and organize your keyword research.

Many of us make the mistake of assuming that a ranking for one generic term related to their site will turn their website into a profitable success. However, it is a fact that targeting multiple terms will not only drive traffic, but also lead to that all-important conversion.

Good planning and a systematic approach to get the best results from your keyword research can only do this. Here's a brief outline how you should approach the challenge of keyword research.

Prepare Your List Of Seed Keywords

Seed Keywords is a list of short generic terms that you think people will use to try and find your site. Now draw up a list of 20 most popular keywords and keyword phrases that you think relates to your topic. For example, if I am researching keywords for a site on "internet income" my Seed Keyword could be "income opportunity", "retirement income", "income streams" etc.

Remember to be creative while building the list because the wider the range of your seed keyword list, the more comprehensive your final results will be as it will open new avenues to find a profitable niche.

If your are finding it difficult to build the list, then go out to a book store and pick up some magazines relating to your topic or you can even ask your friends and family members to help you. Do what ever it is necessary to stimulate your creativity, but make sure you end up with at least 20 seed keywords.

Build A List Of Related Keywords

Expand your keywords into a list of Related Keywords that are often used to your particular subject area. For example, related keywords for 'Internet Income' would include 'Internet Advertising Income', 'Home Internet Income' or 'Extra Income Internet'.

Use this process to generate hundreds of related keywords and check their popularity, i.e., how popular each term is and how many searches are carried out for each keyword phrase.

Consider all of the possible phrases and themes of your site, even using a thesaurus to find related terms or checking competitor websites for ideas. It can be surprising just what terms your potential visitors will be using.

Locate Long Tail Keywords

Long tail keywords are typically 3-6 words in length, but they could be even longer. The term 'long tail' was coined by Chris Anderson and is used to describe the strategy of targeting less-competitive niche markets rather than the hugely competitive broad keywords. Extremely precise multi-word phrases tend to be far easier to position well than the more basic single keyword or double keyword phrases.

Now lets get into the details. The keywords you have found are the initial point for digging into the long tail keywords. Take every keyword you have researched in turn and explore how they are used in longer search expressions. For example, 'internet income' is used in these longer search terms: 'Income opportunity home based business', 'Home business income opportunity' or 'Six figure income'.

Subsequently, look at the every day search count to get an idea of the significance of each term. With this method, you can very rapidly put together a list of hundreds, if not thousands, of keywords.

Concluding Keyword Research Tutorial

Superior keyword research helps to sketch out an exhaustive content plan. This means that you won't misuse time on badly chosen content, but will focus on extremely relevant content that will bring the much-needed traffic you are after. Here are some Keywords Research Tools you can use to find Profitable Keywords.

Turning Traffic in to Adsense Traffic.

Written by Sudipto on Thursday, April 10, 2008

If after running Adsense on your site or blog for quite some time you feel that you are not making as much cash as you could, in most cases you are right. Many of us feel frustrated that we are not generating enough revenue that we expect to do and this is all down to traffic levels as well as Click Through Rates (CTR).

Here are some of the ways you can turn traffic into Adsense traffic:

The first and the foremost thing that you need to do is tune up your site's contents. While for some people this isn't an option (for e.g., if you are running a forum it can be a lot harder), most people can make their websites veritable cash cows. Good content creates royal readers who very often returns for more.

To begin with, you should find out and analize what your site's keywords are. This is a very basic technique in SEO (Search Engine Optimization) also known as keyword density verification. You can use SEO Density Analizer to do this job.

You should then take this list of words and search the Overture Search Inventory or Google AdWords Sandbox to find out what other words could be doing better then what you currently have.

From that point on try to keep your site focused on the things that appear mostly in the keyword suggestions you receive. Try to include those keywords, or at least some related keywords as often as you can in the links on your site.

Because of the way Google AdSense works this is a sure way to increase your earnings because you'll get better ads in your AdSense banners, similar to how you would get a better Google Page Rank

Try to add new pages to your site as often as you can. This is very important because the more pages you have, the higher the chance that you will get more hits on your ads.

Choosing appropriate Adsense ad formats and placing them at the best location is also very important. Generally the top three Adsense ad formats are: 336x280 large rectangle 300x250 medium rectangle and 160x600 skyscraper.

Make sure you blend the ads by choosing the appropriate colors, as making them different from your site's content is sure to make visitors regard them as banners which are irrelevant to the site itself.

Position your ads where they will generate the highest amount of revenue is a must. Generally the location is said to be right if it is at the beginning of your site's actual content, i.e., above the fold.

On pages with a long text body, you might find 160x600 skyscrapers to do better, simply because users get exposed to them for more time. Also, for sites with news or similar items, you might find a good position to be at the bottom of your content, because that's when people are finished reading your story and are looking for something else to do.

You should use more AdSense units if you have a lot of text on your pages, but remember not to overdo it because you might find that you will get a lot lower CTR and lower revenues then you were getting in the first place by employing this technique inappropriately. You can add as many as three similar ad units, so use them wisely.

Use the Google AdSense Preview Tool and analyze what ads would get served on your page as it be a very handy testing mechanism.

Just make sure you respect the AdSense policy regarding click fraud. As a pointer you could place a picture next to your adds, just make sure to leave some room in between in order to make sure this isn't regarded as encouraging visitors to click the link.

Of course there are more ways to increase AdSense traffic from your site, but these should serve as a good starting point for income maximization.

5 Quick Tips To Succeed On Adsense.

Written by Sudipto on Monday, March 31, 2008

After having used Google Adsense for sometime, we begin to learn from our mistakes and slowly realize which of our actions kept our site from reaching its full potential.

However, an important part of making a mistake is to learn from them and making sure that it never happens again. So here are the top five mistakes people make when using Adsense.

Make sure you read them and see if any of them is applicable in your case. If it is, then you must stop making them and attempt to fix such errors as quickly as possible.

The first major no-no that everyone seems to be hitting at one point or another has to do with breaking the rules. Google's AdSense is a great program but it relies on you respecting a few set rules.

One of the most important things is not to create "artificial clicks" through any means possible. Never ever click your own links, don't even ask your friends or close ones to click the links and make sure that your content does not encourage the visitors to click the links. Because if you do so, you run the risk of being permanently banned by Google Adsense, and that will definitely damage your revenue.

The second mistake that some Adsense publishers make is have a bad color palette for ads. Most of the time this happens because the publishers aren't knowledgeable enough to change default color palettes.

Many Adsense publishers just can't seem to spend enough time in changing those defaults. Having bad ads that looks odd is sure to push people away from clicking; whilst having ads that blend with the sites template, something which is clearly visible yet distinctive will encourage visitors to click.

Thirdly, the position of the ads is probably the key element you should get right if you want to maximize your profits with AdSense. This is noted in a lot of places on the web and Google talks about this as well. Google can provide you with statistics which illustrate what positions work particularly well on your website.

Fourthly, banner ads are also a very bad idea. If you're using AdSense Banner type ads, stop because they are a sure way to drive many people away as most Internet surfers have developed a natural resistance to such means of advertising.

And last, but clearly not least, is not taking care of the site running the ads. Because ultimately it doesn't matter how cool the site is itself. If it doesn't have updated contents and a lot of daily visitors it will probably never earn you any serious AdSense revenues.

So these are the most important five things people get wrong while using the AdSense program. But of course if you don't like this means of expressing the issues, here are the top five things you should do to ensure your AdSense ads are constantly bringing in that revenue.

Do not break Google's policy. Do not make visitors create "artificial clicks" on your website regardless of the person doing so or the reason. Make sure your ads have the right colors that blend in with your site, and make sure they're positioned in the right places to attract as many customers as possible. Always try to avoid using banner-like adds unless you really know what you're doing and constantly keep your site fresh and up to date.

So with that in mind you should be raising your AdSense revenues in no time.

Adsense Adverts - Positioning Them Correctly.

Written by Sudipto on Friday, March 14, 2008

After being an Adsense publisher for quite a while you must have asked yourself if theirs is anything that you could do to increase your Adsense earnings. But before you start experimenting, there is a couple of things you should realize about positioning your adsense ads.

There is no universal position that is guaranteed to improve your earnings and this is the first thing you should realize. However having said that, the part above about experimenting is meant to be taken literally. You must try as many different setups you can to find the solution with the greatest benefit.

Of course Google recognizes that there are certain places that usually work better than others and they publish a "heat map" of how much revenue ads placed in certain areas of the page can bring you. Experimenting is often the best way you can find, what suits the sub conscious mind of your audience.

The most profitable ads are generally placed within the main content or generally right above it. But this is not an outright rule and there are some exceptions to it. One such exception is having a news site or something similar to a news site.

If this is your case, you will often find that you generate more earnings by placing your ads at the bottom of the content, right before comments begin. This is because as users finish reading a story, they have a short moment where they're looking for something more to do. And your AdSense ads can offer them that something.

Also, placing ads to the left side of your page seems to work better almost all the time. Of course, this is logical because text is generally written from left to right (unless you come from certain countries where it's the other way around).

People will finish a sentence and return their eyes to the left of your page, which results in having a higher chance of spotting your ads.

There is a lot more to this than just having ads visually in the right place. If you have more then one ad you have to worry about where the code of these ads are located. And there's a very good reason for this concern.

AdSense fills the ads in the order it finds them in the source. That means that if the first add you have in the code isn't the one generating the highest revenue, you may soon start to lose money, rather then earn more.

This is because if AdSense doesn't have anymore ads it will supplement your space with public service ads or just leave it blank altogether. So, if you're unlucky, you could end up with your most profitable locations not having any good ads at all.

There is also the issue with how many ads you should place in your site. If you have too many, rather then generate more income, you'll have a lower Click Through Rate (CTR), as visitors tend not to follow ads from the places where these come in excess.

Also remember to constantly keep track of how the visitors interact with your site. Keep an eye out for where the visitors will be looking at your site most. This is generally the place where you want to use your first ads. Try not to place ads in annoying positions as that can guarantee a lower CTR.

Make sure that you have ads that blend in with your content and generally don't make the visitor's presence on your site an unpleasant one. The key is providing an enjoyable experience for your visitor, whilst generating revenues from their exploration.

Ultimately the best revenue will be earned through a lot of experimentation. Be sure to use AdSense's channels feature and be on the look out for how certain ads in your pages are doing whilst altering the positions to better supplement your earnings.

Choosing Text Ads vs Graphic Ads on Adsense.

Written by Sudipto on Sunday, March 09, 2008

Google provides Adsense publishers with the opportunity to put ads in both text and graphic format.

After choosing Adsense over banner advertising, the question still remains, which is the best format for publishers and which is good for advertisers?

The advertisers may feel that on one hand image ads are more responsive but less likely to make a sale, on the other hand text ads may be less visible to the potential customer but has higher conversion rates.

May be text based ads are the least intrusive of the two formats, but does that mean graphic advertising is better? Well visitors are used to graphic ads by using various web based services (such as free email accounts) and most of them have already programmed themselves to ignore them. It was because the ads were un-targeted, customers ignore the graphic ads from the assumption that it will be the same.

Text format ads are not forced upon visitors. However, being less obvious some people may not see them at all. But those who do see them, and read them are significantly more likely to click on them. This may be for a number of reasons, but the first is that they are more informative. Generally, someone who is reading text ads on a page is not going to be fully satisfied by what they read, and if they click Adsense ads they are most likely to read something which will further supplement whatever their intention is next. With an image ads however, it is far more of a gamble for the visitor.

Graphical ads are often paid per impression because the advertiser may be trying to promote their brand, instead of promoting a service, as a result have worse conversion rates. However, if the text contained within an advert was placed in graphic format, which would be the most effective? Well firstly it can assumed that the surfer will be more likely to see it, however if their were multiple image ads appearing next to each other visitors may feel overwhelmed.

Graphic ads are also harder to regulate. Let us consider Google allowing ads to be changed frequently and without any regulation. The advertiser could claim affiliation from the website they are advertising on, and contain keywords such as "ipod" which cannot be contained within a text advert. Although more regulation and quality control could be in place, a pornographic image for example could be made to appear in an advertiser's adverts unknowingly.

Text adverts also have a broader market appeal, as advertisers don't generally have the in house resources to create an image advert, but do have the in house resources to write a text based advert. This could mean that a wider array of advertisers find text advertising accessible, through text adverts being less burden on the advertiser, and being easy to change.

Text adverts are also cheaper for the advertiser to create, where as a graphical advert may cost in excess of $200. Through removing this fixed cost advertisers may be willing to allot a higher rate to advertising itself; thus benefiting the advertiser and the publisher.

Text advertising appears to be the preference of the advertiser. They pay a CTR (click through rate) and only receive targeted traffic. This removes risks from businesses that previously had to worry that adverts were not only seen, but clicked on and stimulating sales. As CPC (Cost Per Click) is more relevant to text adverts, advertisers are able to gain exposure without needing a high click through rate to be effective.

The big brands are willing to advertise in both formats however the broad market appeal of text ads inevitably makes it the winner. As flash websites disappear with image adverts, it is becoming clear that text and information is the preference of the website visitors.

Adsense - Top Paying Keywords

Written by Sudipto on Friday, March 07, 2008

Hoping to generate more income from Google Adsense a lot of Adsense publishers are looking to find top paying keywords because the higher the advertiser pays for a particular keyword, the more the publisher earns.

The good news is that you can indeed find such keywords if you really need them. If you can afford - the best way to get these keywords is to pay for them. Many companies are specialized to do business by finding people good and profitable keywords not only for the purpose of higher Adsense revenue but also for search engine optimization.

One such a service can be found on "Top Paying Keywords" http://www.toppayingkeywords.com to getting relevant content on your site and increasing your revenue by a whole bunch quickly.

If you are not in the mood to pay for keywords, you can ultimately resort to a method of personal investigation. What it means is that you try out keywords by yourself and see which are the ones that work better.

Paying for the keywords could actually work better than the trail and error basis because at least you would be narrowing down search to certain items. However make sure to keep using Adsense 'channels' feature along the way as it will let you know which sections of your site are generating income and which aren't.

If you need any help, you can always visit Overture. Overture gives you the choice of entering keywords and finding out not only how much advertisers are paying to get them on the publishers page but also how many people are clicking on the words as well. This service can found out at http://www.pixelfast.com/overture/

You can also try out Word Tracker http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com. This tool will tell you how many sites are already using the same keywords. Try to avoid using the keywords that a lot of people are already using.

You can also search google for any keywords you may wish to include in your pages and verify the results. The results will probably be your competitors (and if they have Google AdSense ads on their page) while the links on the right display ads relevant to your search.

If your search does not yield any AdSense results on the right then you might want to reconsider including those keywords in your site. Make sure you don't use any dead keywords (words that don't get any links on AdSense other then public ads).

Of course these are only some of the methods that you can use to find out the top paying keywords. A lot of people with 'not so good' websites are generating a lot of adsense revenue by just finding out the most profitable keywords. But it is vital to remember that having the highest paying keywords doesn't mean that you will make the most money. You also would have to consider how to get traffic to these websites.

Where Adsense Should Appear?

Written by Sudipto on Thursday, March 06, 2008

There are several factors to be considered when deciding whether to incorporate Adsense into your website. While some of us feel that it is a useful tool which generate revenue and makes the content profitable, others feel that it some how diminishes their brand image.

However strange it may seem, many businesses who sell products on their sites decide to place Adsense ads on their website. Not only does it steal valuable traffic, but also opens up opportunities for rivals to promote their service or products to the potential customer base.

Some businesses claim to do this to allow ancillary services to advertise. These claims may have some merit, for example, sites selling pillows may provide sites selling bedding an opportunity to advertise.

Although this would not be a good idea, there are many online retailers who allow rival companies to penetrate their audience. According to them there are still benefits in allowing direct competitors as if visitors wish to see their competitors they would be able to see them through Google search regardless. However, even the slightest thought of an established brand like Coca-cola having a Pepsi advert on their website does not seem a possibility.

Some Adsense publishers also feel that Adsense is not that effective in making conversions. They feel that visitors who click on the adverts are not qualified customers, as they would quickly navigate to the materials or products that interest them if they were.

Adsense may be a questionable choice for some online marketers, but for other varieties of online publishers it is a good supplementary service. Take the case of a free service like dictionary.com. It offers a free service, but due to high level of traffic they are able to make their service profitable through adsense. The same can be said about Bloggers who mainly provide content free of any charge, but generates some revenue as Adsense publishers.

Many publishers also claim that adsense makes their website look more professional. Those who are able to contract with advertisers are generally seen to provide a service with large appeal, and therefore those unfamiliar with the program may feel that the Adsense advertiser is in this position.

Adsense however, is also aligned with those publishers who use the service purely to provide links to adverts. Everyone has done a Google search, clicked on an Adwords advert and came into a website which reads top ten resources on… This is a major problem, as is generally something that surfers find frustrating. If people see that it says adverts by Google, and they then see adverts by Google on another site, they may align that site with consumer unfriendly practices. This is therefore an issue which Google has to address, to maintain Adsense as a reputable service.

Regardless of the disadvantages and for websites which the service may be inappropriate, Adsense is still a useful tool for website visitors. Those who visit a website, and click on a link provide revenues for the publisher, whilst those who provide free services are able to generate revenue.

The only fear that Google has, is that rival Pay Per Click programs offer better deals to publishers and they decide to go elsewhere, therefore taking advertisers with them. However, ultimately it is best for advertisers and publishers if they largely remain in same Pay Per Click circuit.

Adsense - Getting Started With.

Written by Sudipto on Wednesday, March 05, 2008

An important element in the rapid success of AdSense is that it is very easy for publishers to get the ads on their site as quickly and easily as possible.

It only takes a few minutes to integrate AdSense in your websites, and you can be on your way with one or more nicely integrated AdSense ads.

First visit http://www.google.com/adsense and either apply or log in with your existing account and password. What follows is a page presenting the Google AdSense Terms and Conditions which you must agree to in order to proceed.

You are presented with a report page which you can use to get a detailed report on how well you are doing as an AdSense publisher. This allows you to improve your site's contents and layout to maximize your AdSense earnings.

On the top of your page you also have link to the setup ads section where you can generate the code to be pasted on your website in order to serve AdSense ads on your page.

You have four choices - AdSense for text and link units, using a search box, using referrals and using mobile ad units. Your choice among these options depends on how users will navigate your site.

There is also a "My Account" tab which allows you to set up details concerning your account, payment and tax information.

To add a text ad on your site, go back to the "AdSense Setup" tab and click the "AdSense for content" link. Make sure you have cookies enabled in your browser.

You can make a choice between ad units and link units. The former contain text and or images concerning a certain site for each unit, most with a detailed description, the latter only contain links to certain types.

Of course, it's a bit hard to know which type you should use so you should probably experiment with both for a while before you decide.

You can also view an example of how the unit will look to the right of your page. However, you may only use three ad units and one link unit on any given page. This is believed to be a step which Google takes for quality control.

The next step is to choose your add format and colors. You can basically select any color palette you choose with Google offering some of its own if you don't have the time or skill to create one. You can constantly view how the palette will look through the aid of an example. The one that works best in terms of appearance and revenues will vary with the look, feel and content of a website.

However, your ad formats are limited to a choice of eleven formats. There's an "Ad Formats" link which takes you to a page that lets you see all even of these in action so you can decide best which one suits your site. Sometimes the most intrusive, doesn't work best however again, this can vary from website to website.

After you finish with customization, you can click "Continue" from the bottom of the page.

You are now presented with a section entitled "AdSense for Content". You can click anywhere in the text and that shows the JavaScript required to get AdSense running. This will automatically select the text in the box.

You can then copy it and paste it into your pages directly. If you use dynamic pages, you should paste this code within your template so as to ensure that it gets displayed on any page of your website. Some advertisers choose not to display Adsense on every page, and this is understandable. An example of this is a company that has adsense, may also have terms and condition which would inevitably provide legal resources which would probably be deemed inappropriate.

What is then left for you to do is get content on your page, provided you didn't have any already. Google AdSense crawlers will soon visit your site, making sure that the ads displayed are relevant to your site's content.

Why Advertisers Love Adsense?

Written by Sudipto on Tuesday, March 04, 2008

Google being the largest search engine on the web controls over 40% of Internet searches and reigns Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising.

In PPC advertising the advertiser pays a rate for every click through (CTR) which the advertisers set according to their budget. As their budget increases, their position increases, and as their position increases, they get more traffic.

This has lead to many advertisers choosing to advertise with them, and they advertise various ways. Firstly, appearing on Google searches, secondly appearing on Adsense publishers websites, and thirdly appearing in Adsense publishers search results. As ads appear at the side of Google searches, you may ask - Why do the advertisers choose to publish ads with Adsense publishers as well?

One such reason for this is scalability. Advertisers who choose to advertise in search results and who were getting a ROI (return on investment) will decide at one point that they need to identify the scope of other advertising opportunities. With billions of websites which have the capacity to display their ads the advertisers can gain further exposure very quickly.

Choosing to advertise with Adsense publishers also helps the advertisers to gain further exposure. As 60% of internet users do not use Google, the advertisers can appeal to a wider audience by choosing to opt for distribution channels. Many website users may be looking to buy a product such as a phone, yet instead of coming across a website which sells such a product, they come across an article. If the article is on a website which contains Adsense ads then inevitably advertisers can use this channel to penetrate their audience.

Another reason why advertisers choose Adsense is because Google is renowned for being an ethical company who are fun to work whilst providing free services to millions worldwide. Advertisers turst Google and feel that money invested with Google is safe. Despite the evolution of click-fraud and its inevitable disadvantages for advertisers they appear to understand that this is an issue which Google wants to stop and hopefully will eventually. Advertisers are happy that Google admits a problem exits and provides refunds accordingly.

Trust in Google also stems from a trust in cost. The pricing is set by market forces and therefore advertisers never feel that Google is overpricing the service. This means that as long as advertisers are able to advertise they will continue to do so, if not at the same rates.

Another strong advantage for advertisers is that they can appear where Adsense publishers promote their service. The service which Google provides has created an opportunity for businesses of all sizes to advertise and is till widely regarded as the best. New businesses attempt to promote themselves on the web, whilst established brands choose to attract interest in their service using the same technique.

Google Adsense - Why use it?

Written by Sudipto on Sunday, March 02, 2008

If you have heard about Google's AdSense and wondering whether to give it a go or not then why not ask yourself - Is it really worth placing an AdSense banner on your site?

The answer is Yes, Yes and Yes. You could always have some other banner on your site, or even use some sort of affiliate ad program and that would probably make you some money, provided that your site enjoys a healthy amount of visitors. However with affiliate marketing, it is expected that the visitor from your website completes a sale before you see an income.

But that's nowhere near what you get for using AdSense. There are people who earn in excess of $100.000 per year by using AdSense and it doesn't just stop there. Firstly, the ads can be text only. That means they're by far less obtrusive on your visitors then your average, flashy banner that's designed to catch the eye of the visitor.

May be you will have to ensure they get better placement, so as to be noticed but despite that they don't irritate viewer's as much as traditional ads. Think about the many sites you've seen using pop-ups, floating banners and many other schemes that will have visitors screaming in anger every time they visit the said website. With Google Adsense, you can actually do better then that, annoying people less and still making a decent amount of money.

Secondly, Adsense ads are served based on the contents of your page automatically. Where as when you use an affiliate ad program, you have to specify certain categories that your sites belong to.

However, if any of your page falls outside of these categories, the banners are not targeted anymore. And guess what that means? You are showing ads to people who don't have any interest in them and that can hamper conversion rate.

Google Adsense will never show irrelevant ads. The ads will always be in syncronisation with the contents of your site which will interest the visitors and there by add to your site's value and produces revenue.

Thirdly, the look of these banners and their size is customizable, which means they will feel more integrated with the rest of your site's content, which brings an increase in your site's overall visual quality as opposed to a traditional approach.

Also, for most of us finding relevant ads or people to advertise on our site can be quite tedious. With Adsense this problem is solved. Even if Adsense is unable to provide with relevant ads, there is an option which allows you fill the space with solid colour or even show ads from an url mentioned you.

AdSense is free to join and it almost takes no time at all. Also, setting up AdSense on your site is easy, and the whole process can be completed in less then an hour. It takes a lot less to do than any form of affiliate advertising which is why you should choose the easy AdSense approach.

All you need to do (after registering with the program) is - select the type of banner, its size and colour, get the few lines of code provided by adsense and copy & paste it on your web site where you want it to appear.

For any webmaster, that is a killer scheme because it lets you draw the line between your site's usability level and the amount of advertising you wish to have depending on your need. Some people need the money very badly while others just keep AdSense running to pay for the hosting of their website.

AdSense is a very useful advertising program because a lot of thought has went into making it "just work for everyone". It works great for the advertisers, for the webmasters using AdSense, and most importantly for the visitors of the websites.

What is Google adsense?

Written by Sudipto on Sunday, March 02, 2008

What is Google adsense?A few years back, advertising on the Internet was pretty much similar to other types of media like newspapers or television. In fact when you would have entered a site, you would get to see a large banner advertising for the company that was paying for it.

But the problem with these banner advertising was they were targeted towards general internet surfers. You've probably noticed a lot of things like this over the pages you've browsed. You're looking at an on-line shop, looking for a watch but you get a banner that advertises a car.

Although you might, at some later point may buy a car, but right now you're looking for a watch and it would have been so nice if the banner were advertising a watch, because then you would have probably checked it out.

Well folks that what Google thought of, and they came up with an excellent idea called Google AdSense - also known as targeted advertising program. What you do (as a web designer / website owner) is, instead of getting some banner on your site that your visitors won't even care about, is you just allocate some region of the page.

After signing up for Google AdSense program, you just insert a small code in your webpage and Google ensures that in the location you specify, a banner will appear, presenting adds relevant to the contents of your site.

It's very easy for Google to do this because Google is a search engine company. It looks for the key words in your page, searches a database of websites to find the ones related to whatever is on your page and presto: a targeted ad.

You, being the webmaster get a fee for each visitor that clicks on an adsense banner on your site. Now that's bound to happen more often then with a traditional banner because the banner shows ads that are similar to the content of your page.

But, this also helps the people who want to advertise. And it is because of the same reason. The greatest thing about Google AdSense is that what is displayed in a banner is relevant.

Showing relevant ads is the key to the programs success, and also the reason why everyone remains happy. The advertiser has a relevantly placed advert, the publisher earns money from their content and Google take their cut.

The benefit is that AdSense advertising is a lot less obtrusive then regular advertising. But this also means you should position the banner better because it's possible that visitors might miss it.

So in the end, Google AdSense is an advertising program that is very unique because the ads are relevant to the content on the site. Anyone that wants to advertise pays Google for it and get lesser targeted customers. Anyone who wants to place ads on their site does this through AdSense, getting paid by Google in the process.

All transactions are run through Google, and the advertisers and publishers get access to statistics which help them to understand and observe the effectiveness of their campaign.

The whole process is elegant, simple and very effective from anyone in the chain, from site visitors to advertisers, and it's one of the reasons Google are known for their innovation and new thinking.
